Anecdote from a train journey with Paul

Created by Philip 2 years ago

One abiding memory i have of Paul was his incredible artistic ability. Earlier today i recalled an incident from a train journey to London back in the late 90's when me and Paul were on our way to a Manchester City away game, and to visit our friend Paul O'Hare, who lived down there.

Paul was sat opposite me on the train, with his headphones on, and looked for all the world like he was just idlely doodling away in his sketchbook.

At one point in the journey i got up to go to the shop and returned 5 minutes later to find 4 or 5 people stood looking over Paul's shoulder with looks of awe on their faces at whatever he was doing. (Paul had his headphones on and was totally oblivious to the small crowd that had assembled behind him)

I walked round to take a look myself at what he was doing, to discover that he was casually knocking up a 'van Gogh' style drawing of a railway station platform! And i'd supposed he was just scribbling or maybe playing noughts and crosses with himself!

i said something along the lines of....."i didn't know you could draw, Greeney!". To which, he laughed, and then showed me several other equally impressive drawings from his book.
