Memories and Fun times

I got to know Paul through working together in the late 1990’s and we hit it off straight away. What started off as a beer after work soon turned into many a night out in Manchester, a true friendship was born.

Paul would meet Nicola and I met my wife Kerry and we enjoyed some great memories, a few days together in Aviemore for New Year and Nicola’s 30th Birthday when Paul came dressed as Mr T from the A-Team, which made us all laugh! Once Isla, Niamh and Finn came along, it was onto new adventures with them in tow, and alongside Beechy, Grant, Pearl and Mani we enjoyed the Eroica Bike Festivals in Bakewell, camping trips and days out. The kids all loved Paul and they had so much fun with him.
We shared a passion for Man City and over the years would go to games together at Maine Road (the good old days) and then onto the newly built Etihad. In May 2012 with just 1 game to go to win the first league title in over 40 years, both Paul and myself agreed that we needed to be there to witness the feat. Tickets were impossible to come by and it looked like we’d be watching the game on TV, when out of the blue, Paul unbelievably managed to get us 2 tickets (with a huge thanks to Paul Keogh). We enjoyed the pre-game atmosphere in what should have been a routine victory against QPR, but with City being City, nothing would come easy. We all know what happened next when Aguerooooooo put the ball in the net, and both Paul and myself, side by side went absolutely ecstatic! One of the best moments of my whole life, one of the greatest and most iconic sporting moments ever, and I couldn’t have been prouder to share it with Paul. I still get goosebumps now and that day will live with me forever

Years later, as a birthday present, Paul booked us both onto the Man City tour and again we shared the amazing experience together. Paul was always the most generous and thoughtful of people.

It wasn’t just all the adventures and magical memories I’ll miss, but most of all it’s the real friendship, the chats on the phone, the way we could talk to each about anything and everything. The topic of conversation would always end up about our kids, what they had been learning at school, what hobbies they’d been enjoying, or the mischief they were getting into. You had so many qualities, the most genuine of people. The courage and positivity you showed, especially in those last few years in such difficult times was unbelievable.

I’ll miss you so much.
